Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Diode Dynamics SS5 Sport LED Spot Pod light with bracket. This five inch LED spot pod light is gonna act as an auxiliary high beam and increase your visibility to keep you safe. As you can see, I do have this light connected to my power source already, and what you're currently viewing here is one of my favorite features of this light. This is the backlight feature, but more on that in just a moment. I do have this light installed to the bracket that it comes with.

This bracket is going to let you install this virtually anywhere on your vehicle. It does come with the hardware to install the bracket with the light onto your vehicle and it also includes the hardware to allow you to install this light into the bracket. And another nice bonus is that when you have this light in the bracket, you can change the angle to wherever you need it and then once you have that angle set, you can just tighten down the hardware on either side and you will be good to go. I do happen to have a bracket here that's not installed just to show you. This is constructed of durable aluminum, so this is gonna hold up really well for you.

You're not gonna have to worry about corrosion or anything like that. Now this backlight is going to allow you to change its color. So this has a, this light has a selectable backlight feature. You're gonna have eight different color options. So I'm gonna go ahead and zoom out.

And before I shut my lights off here, I'm going to manually change the light, the color of the backlight, hopefully without any problems. It's a little tricky to do manually. You'll want to, when you install this, you'll wanna actually tie it into a switch, which will make it a whole lot easier for you. But let me shut my studio lights off here and let me see if I can get some, get the color to change a little bit. There we go.

So it looks like we're cycling through. So you're gonna get blue, red, teal, amber, green, purple, yellow, and white. And I think I went through all of 'em there. And that's the white back light there. And so eight different color options and selecting your back light's gonna be pretty easy. As I mentioned, you're just going to alternate the power on and off with a switch that you're going to source locally. And what's nice is there's not gonna be any complicated programming with a controller or anything like that. On your screen, I am including a photo just to give you a better view of those color options in case there was one color that I missed in cycling through. So, again, it's gonna be very easy to switch through those colors and it's gonna give you a really nice accent to your vehicle or even give you a little more visibility when you're not using that main beam. So lemme go ahead and zoom back out. We're on our backlight here. And let me fire up that main beam just to show you the difference. So there's our backlight and there's our main beam. And let me see if I can shine this light on the wall behind me to give you a view of that beam pattern. This spot beam pattern is going to do a great job of lighting up objects off in the distance up to about a half a mile away. And this light has a color temperature of 6,000 Kelvin. So this cool white color is gonna match most of your factory LED lights. And this light has a raw lumen rating of 4,800 lumens and a measured lumen rating of 3,800 lumens. So kicking my studio lights on, you can still see that light. And then let me go ahead and go in for another closeup. So the peak beam intensity of this light is 406,100 candela. And in case you don't know, candela ratings measure the directional light output and it's how anything is rated where you want light shining in a specific direction. Lumen ratings are just for omnidirectional output, like your regular light bulbs where you want light shining in all directions. So the power draw on that main beam is 2.75 amps and on the back light it's 0.25 amps. This light is designed with a newer technology known as custom TIR optics. TIR stands for total internal reflection. So unlike the older technology that uses reflectors or simple projector lenses, which aren't real efficient in focusing all the light where you want it, this custom designed, large TIR optic actually collects and then focuses all of the light forward very efficiently. And then instead of having another external lens, certain lens patterns have been molded directly into the surface of this lens. So that's gonna prevent the normal efficiency loss that you see with an outside lens. As you might know, when you shine light through any type of glass or plastic, you could lose up to 10% of that light from it just shining through. So by making it as a part of this lens, you're actually going to gain some efficiency rather than lose it. Now giving you a view of the back of this light, this does have an industry standard integrated Deutsch-style connector. As you can see, I do have that pigtail plugged in, powering this light. But here's a pigtail that's not in use showing you that Deutsch connector, and that's just gonna plug directly into the back of this light. This light also features breather patches. You got two of them right there, and that's gonna prevent moisture buildup in the light. And then these heat sinks on the back housing are going to do a great job of dissipating the heat quickly to prolong the life of this light. Now this light has been built with high intensity LED chips. It does feature a durable powder-coated aluminum construction. That heavy-duty construction's gonna do a great job of withstanding extreme temperatures and corrosion and vibration. Testing has been completed to SAE standards, just like your factory lighting components on your vehicle. And an interesting note is that Diode Dynamics actually designed, engineered, and assembled this light right down the highway from us at their headquarters here in the greater St. Louis area. Let's go over some measurements. Looking at the overall width from end to end, we're sitting pretty close to five and one-eighth inches wide. That's gonna be the same measurement for our height. But then when you put the bracket, install the bracket onto the light, that's obviously going to increase the height of our light. So from the top of the light to the base of the bracket, we're gonna be sitting right at about five and a half inches tall, depending on the angle of the light. So pretty close to five and a half inches tall. I don't think I mentioned the depth. But from the front of our light to the end of our heat sinks, we're gonna be right at about two and three-quarters inches deep. Now this light does draw high current and it does require adequately sized wiring for safe operation. So if you're not using a Diode Dynamics wiring harness, you do wanna make sure that you're using wiring that's 16 gauge or larger. Just cycling through those again there for you real quick.
